Researchers at the Alan Turing Institute (London) and the Toyota Mobility Foundation (Japan) have launched a duo project that aims to upgrade traffic management by using artificial intelligence. Scientists produce scenes that are advanced to help computers process calculations to help predict changes to traffic. This experiment is still in operation but in the future could be used in the outside world.
In Pittsburgh something similar is taking place, a traffic control system invented by the Institute of Robotics at technology is being used on more than 
50 junctions in Pittsburgh. Since it has been experimented in Pittsburgh it has decreased standby time by 40 percent! The travel by times in the city has dropped by 25 percent and the amount of pollutant gases circulated the air have also decreased by 20 percent as well! This traffic system uses video cameras instantly detecting the number of road users and pedestrians at junctions and crossroads. The software detects this information very quickly so it finds the best way to ensure traffic is moving thoroughly by synchronising the traffic lights.
Griffin Schultz CEO Rapid Flow predicts that in the future vehicles will be able to share information about their speed, behaviour etc. by their phones, and live traffic information can they be processed as we drive, walk & ride.
